Privacy policy
DRAFT — prepared on 16 September 2026 from how this website actually works. Before the site goes live the Kirk Session needs to fill in the two items in square brackets (who to contact about data protection, and how long messages are kept) and approve the wording. Delete this notice when done.
Who is responsible for your information
West Fife Trinity Church of Scotland (Scottish Charity No. SC010676) is responsible for the personal information collected through this website. If you have a question about how we use your information, please contact [name or role of the person responsible for data protection] through the contact page.
What we collect, and why
If you send us a message
When you use the contact form we ask for your name, your email address and your message. We collect these only so that someone from the church can reply to you. We ask for nothing else.
Your message is stored securely in the website's database and a copy is emailed to the person who handles enquiries. When a volunteer replies through the website, a copy of their reply is kept alongside your message so that nobody answers you twice. Messages and replies are kept for [12 months] and then deleted.
Counting visits
We count how many times each page is viewed so that we know which parts of the website are useful. This count is anonymous: it does not use cookies, it does not record your IP address, and nothing about you personally is stored. Visits from search engines are ignored.
The people who edit this website
The small team who look after the website sign in with their email addresses. Those addresses are held so we know who may edit the site, and a record is kept of who changed what, so that mistakes can be put right.
What your browser stores
This website does not use advertising cookies or any tracking cookies. Your browser keeps two small things, both only on your own device: the text size you have chosen, so the site stays readable the way you set it, and a note that you have seen the message about this, so it stops appearing. Clearing your browser data removes both.
Members of the editing team who sign in also have a sign-in cookie, which is what keeps them signed in while they work. Nobody else receives one.
Who else handles your information
The website runs on services provided by other companies, which process information on our behalf and only on our instructions:
- Netlify hosts the website.
- Supabase provides the database where content and contact messages are stored.
- Resend delivers the emails the website sends, such as a copy of your message to the church and any reply.
The "Get directions" links on our location pages open Google Maps in a new tab. Google only learns about your visit if you choose to follow one of those links. Links to our Facebook pages work the same way.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone else except where the law requires it.
Your rights
You have the right to ask us what information we hold about you, to ask us to correct it, to ask us to delete it, and to object to how we use it. Please get in touch through the contact page and we will do so. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, or call them on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
